Human Factors Engineer

The ideal candidate will have experience in applying HFE principles to product development and integration, developing and executing user evaluations, documenting research findings and will have a high-level knowledge of design principles like usability, industrial design, simplicity.

Experience working in or with military teams, applying military-specific HFE principles to product development and integration, military/DOD acquisition, research, development, test and evaluation processes, as well as virtual or augmented reality, machine vision and/or camera systems is beneficial. 

Required Support to include:

  • Contributions to Human Factors Analyses (including but not limited to: Task Analyses and Predictive Workload Analyses
  • Support the development of system architectures, CONOPS, and use case development using model-based systems engineering methodologies
  • Contribute to functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Support the preparation, coordination and conduct both predictive and empirical workload analyses as well as usability assessments.
  • Conduct computer based (NX) and empirical accessibility assessments
  • Author/support the program documentation of the HFE processes and products in a format consistent with US Military Data Item Descriptions (e.g. Human Engineering Program Plan, Human Engineering Design Approach Document Operator, Human Engineering Design Approach Document Maintainer, Human Engineering Test Plan, Human Engineering Test Report, et. al).
  • Cross-IPT Collaboration

Requirements:

  • Able to provide technical solutions to a wide variety of difficult problems through creative and practical application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques
  • Able to function in multi-disciplinary team-oriented environment and rapidly adapt to changing work priorities
  • Must have an Active Secret Security Clearance
  • Must be a US Citizen

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 5+ years of Human Factors experience OR Master’s Degree in STEM and 3+ years of Human Factors experience

Preferred Qualifications:

 

 

  • Flight Crew Certifications
  • Aircraft Maintenance Certifications
  • Experience with the interpretation and application of systems safety, personnel survivability, and habitability requirements to system design
  • Significant experience with Systems Engineering processes
  • Proficiency in reading/writing software code
  • Proficiency with MATLAB or SIMULINK
  • Proficiency in system modeling tools (i.e. CORE, Rhapsody, PTC Integrity Modeler, Cameo)
  • Knowledge of SysML, UML, and UPDM
  • Experience conducting structured trade studies
  • Integration & test experience
  • Business development/proposal background
  • Experience preparing Human Systems Interface Style Guides
  • Proficiency with the user interface software prototyping tools
  • Understand systems and design thinking as well as HMI/HCI design principles and practices
  • Experience with DOORS, MBSE and CANVAS modeling tools
  • Experience authoring, evolving, decomposing and verifying requirements from system-level through software implementation-level
  • The ability to clearly and accurately express engineering findings orally and in written technical reports and presentations is essential.
