Systems Safety Engineer (Journey Level)

The Systems Safety Engineer applies engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, develop, implement, test or evaluate military weapons systems. Reviews and prepares engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals and other technical documentation. Applies systems engineering experience to perform functions such as system integration, configuration management, quality assurance testing, or acquisition and resource management. Analyzes, designs, develops, implements, tests, or evaluates software, components, or systems related to engineering or functional requirements of military weapons systems, associated support systems, or management information systems.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

·         Review and approval of Government Contractor System Safety plans and analyses in accordance with MIL-STD-882E (PHA, FHA, SAR, SRHA, SSHA, SHA, O&SHA, SoSHA)

·         Perform and Conduct Software System Safety Analysis in accordance with Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH) or IEEE1228

·         Conduct safety risk assessments and develop recommendations for risk mitigation.

·         Provide safety support at TIMs, Audits, Design Reviews, System Safety Working Groups (SSWGs) etc.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Basic Qualifications:

·         Position requires a clearance or ability to obtain a clearance

·         BS/MS degree in Computer Science or Engineering

·         Knowledge of Avionics systems operation and architectures.

·         Knowledge of life cycles processes such as IEEE 12207, RTCA/DO-178B/C, RTCA/DO-254 is desired Knowledge of Military (MIL-STD-882) or Civil (ARP4764) Safety Standards desired

·         Possible Experience with Model based development

·         Possible Experience with at least one programing Language C, C++, Ada, etc.

·         Possible Experience with multi-core processors

·         Working Knowledge with Development/Verification Tools (VectorCast, LDRA, etc.)

·         Self-motivation

·         Effective oral/written communication, interpersonal and team skills

·         SECRET Security Clearance Required

Education:

Position requires a BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related scientific discipline.

Experience:

At least three (3) years of recent and relevant experience is required. Demonstrated knowledge in area of engineering expertise is required.
